Themes of The Tempest

The Tempest by William Shakespeare dipicts many themes throughout the course of the story.

Desire for Freedom
Caliban wants to be free from his master Prospero.  Throughout the story he plots to kill Prospero by using Stephano and promising him he will be the King of the Island once Prospero is dead.

Ariel also wants to be free from Prospero.  Prospero promises to free him after Ariel finishes doing dirty work for him.
